The Role

Contract: Permanent

Pattern: Part Time: Monday to Friday 3.00pm to 6.00pm Term Time Only 39 weeks (or job share)

Salary: D (£13.054 – £13.2603 per hour) | Closing Date: 12/06/2026 12 noon

As an After School Playworker, you will play a key role in creating a safe, stimulating, and supportive environment for our children at the end of the school day. You will help to shape memorable experiences, encourage positive relationships, and support the wellbeing and development of every child in your care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspire children by preparing, delivering, and joining in with a variety of creative play activities that spark imagination and promote social skills.

  • Set up welcoming play spaces and ensure everything is tidied away afterwards, helping to maintain a safe and inviting environment.

  • Observe children’s play and learning, sharing your insights with colleagues to support each child’s growth and celebrate their achievements.

  • Provide attentive care by escorting small groups to and from school, ensuring every child is safely returned to their parent or carer.

  • Prepare and serve healthy snacks and refreshments, creating a relaxed and sociable atmosphere for all.

  • Welcome and support new staff, students, and volunteers, helping everyone feel part of our friendly team.

  • Administer first aid when needed (training will be given), following school policies to ensure children’s safety and wellbeing.

  • Offer sensitive support with children’s personal care, always respecting their dignity and individual needs.

  • Take pride in keeping resources clean and well-maintained, reporting any issues so our club remains well-equipped.

  • Uphold the highest standards by working within the Children’s Act and adhering to all relevant guidelines and policies.

The Person

We are looking for someone who brings warmth, enthusiasm, and a genuine commitment to supporting children’s development. You will be a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment and is eager to contribute to our caring school community.

We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with children, with the ability to support and engage both small and large groups in after school activities.

  • A positive approach to organising and leading play, with the confidence to support the lead in planning and delivering sessions.

  • An understanding of the needs of KS2 children, with the ability to adapt to individual differences and provide inclusive care.

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills, enabling you to follow school policies, keep accurate records, and communicate effectively.

  • Excellent communication, listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, colleagues, and parents.

  • Willingness to present information to others, such as contributing to reviews and team meetings.

  • Creativity and enthusiasm for leading safe, enjoyable, and imaginative play experiences.

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • Respect for the views, backgrounds, and needs of all children, fostering an environment where everyone feels included and valued.

  • A food hygiene qualification is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided.
