Through our English lessons, we aim to foster a love of reading and writing. Each year group have daily English lessons which develop spelling, grammar, reading and writing composition. Children also have guided reading sessions where they work in small groups and some children continue with phonics lessons using the Little Wandle scheme.

Teachers have carefully selected books to study in detail with each year group which are detailed opposite. These have been carefully chosen to cover a range of text types. These books are supplemented by a daily story time where teachers choose books for a variety of reasons: to continue a series that children have enjoyed; to complement books children have been studying in English or to give children experience of a different genre.
